2009 Summer Event (barbecue)

The Summer Event, taking the form of a barbecue, was held for the second year running in the Rose Garden at the School on Saturday 27th June 2009.

Association President Colin Lloyd welcomed 80 or so members and guests to the event, which was blessed with dry warm weather - a perfect summer evening - despite threats of thunder during the day.

The Rose Garden looked perfect, and the food, including burgers, two sorts of sausages and pork chops (cooked by Peter Picken and Martin Humphries, helped by Heather Humphries and Joel Faulkner), with plenty of salads, followed by seasonal puddings, was enjoyed by all.

Ken Garbett ran the bar, and a raffle, run by the President and with prizes ranging from some excellent wines to a dozen home-laid eggs, was well supported.

A nice line in background music was provided by Tony Pearson, and the evening's entertainment was completed by Campbell Slater with his rendition of some favourite 'pop' classics from about 50 years ago with particular emphasis on Buddy Holly's repertoire.

Those attending ranged from the usual well-known faces to a very welcome group of a well over a dozen younger members, brought by Thomas Bull.
