Robert 'Spillers' Spilsbury has died suddenly at the age of 84.

Robert joined the school in the prep, and finally left in 1948.

His sporting prowess was considerable.  In 1945, he won the junior high jump, junior long jump and the junior cross country.  He was also winner of the junior 'Victor Ludorum'.  He played 2nd XV rugby for the school team in 1946, and then, in 1947, he took third place in two swimming events.  In 1947, he won the senior high jump, receiving the Oldnall Cup.  1948 saw him gaining his School Certificate as well as swimming in the Kings House relay team.

Shortly after leaving school, he joined the family carpet business, Spilsbury & Wilcox.  They merged with Minster Carpets and were eventually taken over by the Bowater Group.

He leaves a wife, Patricia, and two sons, Robin and Julian.
