With a very heavy heart, we announce the death of Pat Yarnold, on 20th March at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, following a long illness.
Pat, as a pupil of the School, travelled on the bus every day from his home in Tenbury Wells, and was in Clares house. He completed his O-levels in 1962 and left in 1965 following his A-levels; he returned to teach Art, having undertaken teacher training at St Paul's College, Cheltenham, graduating in 1968. Even after he had retired, he continued to serve the School as Work Experience Coordinator, and as the Old Carolians' nominee for Governor from 2002-2019. He was President of the Association from 2009-2010, and it was during his watch that the centenary Dinner was held in Kidderminster Town Hall; thereafter, he was appointed an Honorary Life Member (an award that is seldom given), and remained a Committee Member, attending meetings as best he could until his illness became too much. His hobbies included landscape painting and gardening, both of which he was able to perfect by living at the picturesque Upper Doddenhill Farm, near Newnham Bridge, and skiing.
There has already been a tribute for Pat, when he was fondly mentioned during the School's Awards Evening on 20th March. It is expected that many others will wish to pay their respects; they can do so by attending the funeral, which is due to be held at Wyre Forest Crematorium on Monday 15th April at 1:30 pm.
