Old Carolians Music Appeal

Nigel Geary (1970) is doing a great job on the Old Carolians Musical Instruments Appeal. Here is his latest update:

“A fantastic response to the Old Carolians’ appeal for pre-loved musical instruments to be presented to the school. First out of the blocks was OCA El Presidente, David Simons, who generously donated a Cordoba Luther Series acoustic guitar in beautiful condition. Then Emeritus Prof. Ray Rivers (1960) (photo) presented his cherished 1902 violin made by Thomas Craig of Aberdeen. Also, his wife Jane has donated her 1874 Emile Etique of Paris violin. The Rivers have also donated a Boosey & Hawkes Clarinet.

In addition, we have two flutes and a French Horn donated by Nigel Geary who has already renovated 4 Yamaha keyboards which had been stored and forgotten in the school vaults. Finally, we have a high-end Technics keyboard from Anthony Saunders which may be a bit too complex for the school and needs new parts so we may sell it to fund other instruments.

Hopefully we can arrange a presentation reception to hand over the instruments to the Music Department in the near future. Note: The vintage violins may be quite valuable so with the donors’ permission we may opt to sell them to raise money for new student violins, repairs and to help pay for music tutors.”

If any Old Carolian has any instruments they would like to donate to help further this worthy cause then please let us know.
