Old Carolians Association Backs Bright Future with Rowing Boat Donation
The Old Carolians Association is proud to announce an exciting new initiative that will open up fresh opportunities for pupils of King Charles I School — the donation of a rowing boat to be housed at Stourport Rowing Club.
This generous contribution marks the beginning of what promises to be a transformative partnership between the Association, the school, and the local rowing community. By providing access to a dedicated boat, pupils will now have the chance to experience rowing first-hand — a sport that not only builds physical strength and endurance, but also instils discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
Rowing is widely recognised for its ability to develop both body and mind. For many pupils, this initiative will introduce them to a sport they may never otherwise have had the opportunity to try. The experience of training on the water, learning technique, and working together as a crew offers invaluable life skills that extend far beyond sport itself.
Spearheading the campaign is Dr Nigel Geary, whose passion for rowing and commitment to youth development has been the driving force behind the project. With decades of rowing experience, Dr Geary is generously offering his time and expertise to support pupils through coaching and tuition. His involvement ensures that students will benefit from high-quality guidance as they take their first strokes on the river.
The partnership with Stourport Rowing Club further enhances the initiative, providing pupils with access to excellent facilities and a welcoming environment in which to learn. The club’s support will help ensure the programme is both safe and sustainable, giving students the best possible introduction to the sport.
For King Charles I School, this represents a significant enrichment of its extracurricular offering. Not only does it broaden sporting opportunities, but it also strengthens links with the Old Carolians Association and the wider community — reinforcing a shared commitment to supporting the next generation.
The Old Carolians Association hopes this initiative will inspire pupils, build confidence, and perhaps even uncover future rowing talent. More importantly, it reflects the Association’s ongoing dedication to giving back and creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
This is just the beginning of an exciting journey — and one that promises to make a lasting difference for years to come.
